Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be better. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
