Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
