Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are great at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!
