Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to discover, are wonderful at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling famished can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
