Foods That Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you want to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are truly great for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest them quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood also!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
