Use Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
