Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you wish to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
