Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and be happy!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
