How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are actually wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
