Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat some eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
