Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. And now you know green tea can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
