Foods That Can Make You Happy
In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat some eggs to jolly up!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
