Foods That Can Make You Happy
Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!
So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
