Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
