Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
