Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.
If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
