Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can actually bring you down! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
