Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood also!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
