Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know green tea can help you be happier as well!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
