Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat a few eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
