Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nourishing and good for you. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Grains can be wonderful for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
