Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you wish to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
