Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. A number of foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier also!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try several of these instead!
