Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
