Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are truly great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
