Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
