Use Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for improving your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
