Foods That Make Your Mood Better
For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you want to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
