Foods That Can Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling starved can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these suggestions instead.
