Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling starved can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood as well!
