Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at fighting back depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
