Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to battle depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
