Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
