Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to stay away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
