Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
