Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
