Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you wish to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods too!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
